How did you two meet?
BY GREER MCDONALDEveryone loves a good "How did you two meet?" story and I've heard, or been involved, in a number of instances which would melt even the coolest ice-cold heart.
It got me thinking about all the unexpected things in life, and how you never really know what, or who, is around the corner.
I love hearing people's stories of how they met their partner.
Sure, a quick survey of my colleagues reveals many of them met in the "usual" ways - "Drunk at a party", "Work" or "Went to uni together".
I didn't need to ask my colleague from Timaru how he met his wife; I reckon they're probably related and met at a family reunion.
(Ooooh, did I just say that?)
But every now and then there are those ever-so-slightly cooler stories.
My brother met his future wife in Japan.
The pair, who were both working as English teachers at different schools, would ride their bikes to work and every day meet at the same intersection like clockwork.
One day, one of them said 'Hi' then boom! No, not a car accident. That was the sound of love hitting them square on.
They were engaged within a year and are now happily married.
I kinda know someone who knows someone who knows a couple that met when he went in to get his infected carpet burns on his knees (!!) dressed by a nurse.
He left with her phone number and they eventually got married.
My parents met when they played basketball together in the mighty town of Foxton.
Well that's their story.
I'm sure there's a much more exciting story behind it than that considering they're both 5ft nothing so unless it was a midget basketball tournament, I think they're pulling my leg.
Someone else I know got lucky thanks to their literary choice.
"On holiday once I got laid cause I was reading "To Kill a Mockingbird'," he told me.
I met a guy online once - back in the days when online dating wasn't as mainstream as it is now.
Turned out he only lived a few doors away and we ended up dating for a year or so.
I also met a guy as I stepped off my bus.
He recognised me from Twitter/this blog and introduced himself.
Top marks for that and he got a few dates for his troubles.
Recently I met a guy after a work related phone call.
Turned out he liked my dulcet tones, googled me and asked me out - even after reading this blog. Top marks again, and he too secured a number of dates for his trouble.
So what's the best "How we met" story that you have - either one of your own or one you know of.

Hahaha its definitely not the best 'How we met' story, but when I first met my man, I really didnt like him. The company he was keeping totally turned me off. But as one of my best friends was flatting with him, I spent the next three years getting to know him and when I realised I liked him, I was soooooooooooo nervous and didnt know how to break the ice. So one night I blurted out that I knew I wasnt good enough for him and would he be happy with FWB... He said thanks but no thanks and how about you come around for dinner tomorrow night? Three years later and we have never been happier :P He has since told me that he was watching me all that night and was trying to figure out how to ask me out. The FWB thing was kinda random and he wasnt into it, but it showed him that I felt the same way so in a weird way it worked!
Hmm.... my deeply romantic "how did you end up together?" story is still in the making. Check back with me in a few months.... it'll make for either a very happy or a very sad tale!
My folks met while acting in a play, playing an engaged couple :-) When they married there was actually a newspaper report about 'Actors marry for real'
Well I don't know many good stories on the "how we meet" I met my partner when we were both 15, I was friends with his sister but met him thru a friend of mine (before I knew he was my other friends brother) we were together for a few months then I moved away:(
I then caught up with him 4years later and we got back together and here we are... Somethings are meant to be:)
Met a guy once who worked at a library during university who liked my selection of borrowed books. So pretended to ask for my contact details to "update the system" then ended up calling me a week later to inform me I had unpaid library fines and that they needed to be paid immediately. I went to the library to argue that it was a mistake. He asked me about a book I had borrowed and then if I was free for a coffee later....ended up going out for 5 months and I managed to develop a bad habit of never returning library books on time.
Met my (now ex) husbo in an orchestra pit, making eyes over a Mozart symphony...
....well, I can't add any great stories here I'm afraid, the significant relationships in my life started: (1)at school (2)at the pub (3)at the pub (4)at work (5)online....how average am I?!!
"I didn't need to ask my colleague from Timaru how he met his wife; I reckon they're probably related and met at a family reunion."
That's how we roll in Timaru!
My parents went to the same primary school and high school, then got married and have been that way for 40 years. In a lot of ways, that's really weird to me. Nice, I suppose, but weird nonetheless.

I met the love of my life on my doorstep! I was crashing at my mums for a while while it was on the market. He came and brought the house. My dad often reminds us he should of charged extra for him to get the daughter too.
