First blog engagement

Ask Greer Friday is on a hiatus (just for today) because there are much more important things to discuss - such as an unexpected (but much wanted) update which landed in my inbox.

To provide context to this email, it's best if you read comment #54 and #58 on this post, and then read this.

Now that you're up to speed, read with great delight as I did, the email I received yesterday. Dropping on the knee

Hi Greer

Well apologies for the delay in providing an update on my proposal.

It is a very long story. SJ was in Auckland for work on the day of the original post, and being a kinda traditional gal, albeit with eccentric tendencies, I didn't send her the link as I didn't know how she would react. Until today.

While I would often make off the cuff remarks about marrying her, she took it all with a healthy grain of salt, pointing out she had no ring and we were hardly set up for a life together after a year of massive upheaval for us both.

Last week we saw online a ring we both adored - it was so SJ - a vintage diamond and sapphire job in a most unusual setting. We bought it (she had to finance 30% of the cost unfortunately - very modern....) and it arrived yesterday.

I asked her to marry me last night, but she said no, she wanted a romantic backstory. This morning she changed her mind and I played hard ball, making all manner of legal arguments as to why my original offer was no longer available. She cajoled me, yet I stood firm.

Then I played my trump card. I sent her the link - not to the ginga post but the follow up post that I had not seen until today. I watched my email with growing trepidation, and no reply came. Then, not fifteen minutes ago, she called asking if it was really me. I said it was, she said I was crazy, and then agreed.

So, the first Greer engagement is go. Thanks to the blog!

So, many thanks for the follow up post. It gave the proposal such gravitas!

JJ

I commented on the ginga post that although I hadn't dated ginga, I wouldn't be adverse to it.

Well now a few of months later I've had a couple of qreat dates(and more to come) with an awesome red head/ginga girl.
