Gaming in packs: a community project
BY ANDY ASTRUCDo you like games? Do you like people? Do you like these things combined into a delicious sauce?
Stay tuned.
I recently began searching the internet tubes and the local reality for signs of some sort of gaming world in Wellington. Essentially I was looking for like-minded people with whom to bond non-sexually.
But it turns out that either there is no such thing as a video gaming community in this city, or there are actually only four gamers and I already know them. With no luck in my search, I disappeared down a small rabbit hole and was never seen again. Later, I had a brilliant idea.
Surely people enjoy playing lots of games, talking about games, gaming, staring at games, thinking about games and secretly licking games when the shop assistant isn't looking. And surely they would like to do this with others.
And so Free Mushrooms emerges like a conceptual foetus, half-formed but full of promise.
Free Mushrooms is a video gaming club, a place to meet, a zone to find similar brains. It's a simple little group put together with a few friends to give us an excuse to play games, drink, play games and talk... games. It's about games, okay?
There's sure to be all sorts of fascinating things like reviews, game nights, swaps, online groups and the gaming equivalent of a lending library (because the only thing better than playing games is doing it on the cheap). Right now there is a Facebook page which has all the evolving details. Our first meeting will be sometime in the middle of next week, probably just getting a drink in the city.
There's a good chance I will be talking about one of the following obsessions (WARNING: may blow your tiny mind):
