A 27-year-old Wellington man was arrested this evening for duck hunting in residential Porirua.

Police were called at 5.15pm by a resident of Grays Rd, who reported shots being fired in the wetlands bordering Pauatahanui Inlet. Both ends of the road were blocked off by police, who found and arrested the man at 5.45pm.

Gray's Rd is a semi-rural area with homes and lifestyle blocks along its length.

The shooter was taken to Porirua police station to be interviewed. Police have not yet laid any charges, a spokesman said.

The man had not killed any ducks, the spokesman said.
