A Go Wellington bus hit a pedestrian, leaving her with serious head injuries in Wellington Hospital.
The accident, at 6.10pm yesterday in Adelaide Rd, held up traffic along a kilometre stretch of the road for three hours and disrupted about 40 other buses.
Acting Sergeant Michael Black said it appeared the woman, in her 40s, had walked out from the passenger side of her four-wheel-drive, which was parked on the side of the road in Berhampore, before walking into the path of the Island Bay-bound bus.
She was in a serious but stable condition last night.
About 15 passengers were picked up by another bus passing through after the accident. Roading police and Serious Crash Unit investigators attended the accident, along with an accident investigator from Go Wellington operator NZ Bus.
The latest accident follows several recent incidents of pedestrians being hit by Go Wellington buses, including a woman who died when she was dragged under a bus while jogging in Brooklyn Rd on November 13.
