Wellington's weather was distinctly un-African today, yet hundreds of people made their way through gales and rain to Shed 6 for Africa Day.

A party atmosphere was in full swing all day by the waterfront, with almost everybody dancing to the musical acts from noon untill well after nightfall.

Wellington-Nigerian musician Bohemian Thought was due to close the festival tonight with an improvised Afrobeat-funk set.

He couldn't choose a favourite part of the day.

"It was beautful food, lots of laughter; it's just been beautiful."

Soon to release a new album, Thought was inspired by Melbourne Ghanian band One Africa, who impressed with their percussion.

"It's just amazing to see how much creativity there is."
