Cannon fire sounded over Wellington at midday as a tribute to Prince Philip.
The 21-gun salute from Point Jerningham was heard reverberating across the central city on the stroke of 12 in celebration of the Duke of Edinburgh's 93rd birthday.
The 16th Field Regiment, Royal New Zealand Artillery has four 25-pounder guns at Point Jerningham used for official salutes and welcoming duties.
All salutes are fired with blank charges, so there was no risk to shipping in the harbour.
