Man shared sex images

A Porirua man has been sentenced to jail after sharing more than 600 images of young girls, some aged under 13, in sexual poses.

Raymond Charles Petersen, 47, was charged after being found with objectionable images of seven young girls on file-sharing networks.

Petersen was also charged with possessing a file containing more than 150 objectionable images.

The Department of Internal Affairs' Jon Peacock, who initiated the investigation, said continuing damage was done to the victims by the copying and subsequent viewing of the images through file-sharing networks.

Petersen was sentenced in Porirua District Court to 7 months' jail, and for six months after his release will face restrictions on his access to the internet, to children, and will attend a sexual-abuse treatment programme.
