Rongmei Fan's estranged husband has pleaded not guilty to having murdered her at her Miramar home last November.

Michael Edwin Preston, 59, appeared in the High Court at Wellington this morning.

He also pleaded not guilty to breaching a protection order by having physically abused her on the day she died, November 8.

Preston was arrested in April.

He is remanded in custody but is expected to ask for electronically-monitored bail at a hearing next month.

Fan, 37, a Chinese immigrant with two children, was allegedly stabbed to death.

Do you have faith in police solving burglaries?

Yes - there's no faulting their commitment.

Mostly, but they are under-resourced.

Sort of - depends on when and where.

Not really - clearly a low priority for them.

Absolutely not.

Not sure - luckily I've never been burgled.
