Wellington firefighters have had a busy few hours today with two house fires needing extinguishing in the city, although all residents escaped without injury.

Fire Service central communications shift manager Chris Dalton said five fire trucks, plus one with a ladder, were called to a blaze in a two-storey block of flats in Park Road, Miramar about 1.20pm.

The fire was contained to one of the apartments, which were near Roxy Theatre.

All residents had been accounted for and were uninjured.

Three hours earlier, six crews of fire fighters rushed to a fire in a two-storey home in Brooklyn, which they swiftly extinguished, containing the damage to its stairwell.

All residents escaped without injury, Dalton said.

Fire investigators were at both scenes to uncover the fires' causes, which were yet unknown.
