Wellington police have arrested and charged a man with missing teeth in connection with an alleged attack that left a woman needing surgery.

Police arrested Dennis Arthur Te Pania, 40, at about 2.30pm today at a home in Adelaide Road, Newtown.

He was wanted in connection with an alleged family violence incident in the suburb on 24 July.

The alleged victim had needed surgery for her injuries however she has since been discharged from hospital and is helping police with their inquiries, Wellington Police spokesman Nick Bohm said.

The police had sought the public's help finding Te Pania over the past two weeks. Although he is an identical twin he could be differentiated from his sibling by his missing front teeth, police had advised.

Te Pania is due to appear in the Wellington District Court tomorrow and faces charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, Bohm said.
