Commuters can expect delays travelling north out of Wellington tonight, following a crash in the Porirua suburb of Papakowhai.

A north-bound car crashed into a roadside barrier on State Highway 1 at 4.55pm, a police spokesman said. There were no injuries but the fire service was in attendance.

The left-hand lane had been blocked but was now cleared. NZTA warned that delays may continue until at least 6.30pm.

Another crash would slow traffic coming from the Lower Hutt suburb of Wainuiomata. A van rolled on the Seaview-bound side of the road at 4.30pm.

Nobody was hurt, but the van was blocking the road, and emergency services planned to block the Seaview off-ramp to clear the scene.
