Wellington's Hataitai bus tunnel was closed for over an hour this morning, sending buses on a circuitous route to get to and from the eastern suburbs.

Greater Wellington regional council spokeswoman Philippa Lagan said a wire at the entrance of the tunnel was damaged shortly before 9am.

While crews worked to fix the wire, buses that usually used the tunnel were driving as far as the tunnel entrance on the Hataitai and Mt Victoria sides, then turning around and detouring through the Mt Victoria road tunnel.

The tunnel was reopened at 10am.

The cause of the damage was not immediately known.

Do you have faith in police solving burglaries?

Yes - there's no faulting their commitment.

Mostly, but they are under-resourced.

Sort of - depends on when and where.

Not really - clearly a low priority for them.

Absolutely not.

Not sure - luckily I've never been burgled.
