New complainants have come forward since a former Hutt Valley High School teacher was publicly named while facing charges for indecently assaulting young girls, police have confirmed.

Police are not revealing the number or the origin of the new complaints concerning former Hawke's Bay teacher Charles Harter, 63, as the matter remains under investigation.

Harter pleaded guilty on Tuesday to nine representative charges of indecently assaulting nine girls aged between 8 and 11 between February 1 and July 21 this year.

He previously taught at other Hawke's Bay schools, as well as in Masterton, and at Hutt Valley High.
