A sixth pedestrian has been hit on central Wellington's new bus route, which drivers are describing as a "cock-up".
The woman, in her 20s, was taken to Wellington Hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a bus travelling towards Courtenay Place along Manners St, between Willis and Victoria streets, soon after 5pm yesterday. She was in a stable condition last night.
Have you had a near miss with a bus in Manners Street?

A Dominion Post reporter travelling on the bus said it appeared the victim was struck by the corner of the bus, injuring her head.
The driver, who wasn't speeding, was upset and crying after the accident.
The two-way route along Manners St and the former mall was introduced in late November.
Tramways Union Wellington branch president Nick Kelly, who hit a pedestrian on the route in December, said drivers were beginning to describe its design as a "cock-up".
"Suddenly you have a person in front of you. You feel terrible. It's an awful feeling."
The union met Wellington City Council last week to discuss ways of stopping people stepping in front of buses. This could include a textured strip on the edge of the footpath to signal a danger area.
Council spokesman Richard MacLean said speed cameras would be reviewed today.

Yes Benjamin I am talking and was warned about Luigi Muollo, the Dominion Post however was happy to entertain his lies so the truth will never be told and how they run their business. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/3116191/Manners-Mall-bus-critic-changes-lanes
The Human Bus suffered the same fate ending up on their front page is when you know you've rattled them just like we did. The Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce amongst others (Infratil/NZBus) also came at us trying to undermine public support for Manners Mall what we stood for and still believe in.
The single administrator Facebook Group Save Manners Mall with 5000 members channeled people away from the action and delibaratly removed any prospect of reaching the army that was needed to oppose Fran Wilde's Greater Wellington Regional Council's plan to bus-only lane a public road against LTA rules. Omitting the 2008 WCC Cycling and Walking Policy left public safety standing in the cold with Prendergast and Wade-Brown both in the know. Yes Wellington you have been punked and ordinairy citizens are hurting.
The Land Transport Act 1998 definition of a road; a place where the public have access, whether by right or not.
As a bus driver I see constantly see stupidity by pedestrians. The worst are the ones that run across the road against the red light while dragging a kid by the arm. Listening to ipods and phones, or sending text messages is stupid too. And I saw plenty of it in wellington when I was there in October last.
The old "rule" of stop, look and listen before crossing the road does not seem to apply in Wellington. At times I wonder if Japanese air force WW2 pilots were given the opportunity to observe the tactics of Wellington pedestrians the kamikaze attacks on the American navy would have been far more devastating.
does anyone know wtf Benjamin Easton is on about?
@ The City is Ours #44 - in that case she wasn't looking. Those wing mirrors stick out in an obvious manner, anyone who does't look out for them is careless and asking to be hit. People need to take a bit more care for their own safety.
Maria van der Meel, you are talking about Luigi Muollo. Clearly love to Luigi is money. He admitted this in the Environment Court as a skilled entrepreneur. The same as with the council in their bid to take the east-west route for light rail, committing the city to an unlikely north-south pedestrian flow and commercial build in the upper Cuba Character Area he cares little to not at all for his fellow citizen: And for the moment while this indulgence is tolerated Wellington is secured as heartless.
Again it has become a case of lets complain first and blame everyone else except for us. I am rather sick to hear of people who have to blame others for their own actions the buck stops with the individual!. People who are at fault should be made to pay a fee when cause distruption to the inner city and to the bus company they cause unecessary pain by their own stupid actions. Wellington city has many pedestrian crossing which are avaliable to use but I see everyday people of all sorts of life mostly adults over 40 who should know better walk right out infrount of willis street buses. I think we can take the figer of the ipod the eye off the txt for 2 seconds of our lives before we cross the road to some thats alot shows how ignorant we as a society have become, and to all those who so called loved the old manners mall it's funny how you say that now before it was a tip with punk kids hanging outside timezone begging for spare change and muggings and fights breaking out outside burger king and how you did nothing to clean it up then and now you complain now when it has a purpose. Like I said it's easier to complain and point fingers before we can take full responsibility of our own actions.
Stop, look and listen: Works well in the suburbs, the City however has a daily buzz while people and cars move around in it, add a bit of road works here and there for your average day in Wellington.
Modern buses now carry their engines at the back and can't actually be heard until 14 meters of bus comprising 12 tonnes of steel has passed you by, trolley buses sneak up on you at the best of times. Wing mirrors have been sighted as the main cause for near misses reported to WCC as they tend to hang over the footpath in the narrow section of Manners Street. The sixth pedestrian may in fact have sustained her injury from the wing mirror while she was waiting to cross the road, they stick out anywhere between 15 and 33 centimeters on the side of the bus. These facts were presented by the City is Ours in the Environment Court and dismissed by Judge Thompson based on the evidence by Dr.Stewart from Opus International that the wing-mirror would "collapse".
She may have in fact have looked and listened just had not calculated the bit on the side being the wing-mirror. Anyone concerned with the cost of hospitalization, the victims and their families? And why does the Tramways Union stand by and allow their members to start their daily shift not knowing whether they will be filing an incident report and the end.
What idiots..... Why are people putting themself at risk,,stop crossing the roads where your not meant too..use the pedestrian crossing like a normal human being.. and stop playing possum on the bus lanes..those buses are not designed to stop when you jump out in front of it...its alots of bus coming right at ya...
