Is there no bandwagon he won't jump on? The public are used to John Key's political plugs but he took it to another level yesterday, revealing that he plans to try the new KFC no-bun burger at the weekend.
His teenage son, Max, had tried one and it was reportedly "a cracker".
The Double Down - a bunless creation consisting of bacon, cheese and sauce squished between two chicken fillets - went on sale this week, with long queues outside many stores.
"I went for a run yesterday morning so I deserve one of those Double Downs," Mr Key said. He saw the long line outside the Kent Tce KFC store this week and is inspired to try one.
The popularity, and controversy, of the creation has been covered extensively by all forms of media, granting the fast-food giant a run of free advertising its competitors can only dream of.
Sales and Marketing Institute president Wayne Maguire has said KFC's marketing campaign was extremely smart and deserved respect. It had managed to make the campaign look as far from an advertisement as possible by igniting debate among the public.
KFC marketing manager Geraldine Oldham said the Double Down had "taken on a life of its own" but the company had some idea of what to expect after its arrival in the US and Australia.
