Manawatu may have a second firebug on the loose.

There were two suspicious fires in the region - one in Foxton, the other in Feilding - last night.

Fire fighters believed the two fires were unconnected.

The Feilding house fire was this morning described as suspicious by Fire Service communications shift manager Jan Wills.

The fire in a large boarded up house on the corner of Duke St and North St was well ablaze and four units had been sent to extinguish the blaze.

Emergency services were called at 11.38pm.

Earlier in the evening there was a "fairly large'' fire at  Foxton Sawmilling.

Firefighters had to bring in three extra water tankers to battle the blaze.

Fire safety officers were investigating the cause this morning.

Manawatu Fire assistant area commander Rodger Calder confirmed the fire was suspicious.

It destroyed the building.

In December last year a Foxton man appeared in Levin District Court charged with arson attacks on the Foxton Racecourse during November and December.
