A car up for auction on Trade Me may lack drive-ability, but at least it can boast a colourful history.

Last week boy racer Daniel Briant had his pride and joy Nissan Laurel crushed at Macaulay Metals in Lower Hutt. It became the first car crushed under boy-racer legislation.

Now the flat slab of metal has appeared on Trade Me under the scrap metal yard's account, with proceeds going to Youthline.

Macaulay Metals chief financial officer Phil Springford said since the auction went live plenty of questions had been posted that would not be answered "because I'm sure Trade Me wouldn't let them".

One that did make it through was whether Mr Briant was still in the crushed car: "No, but we hope he supports our move to support a worthwhile charity."

Mr Springford said Youthline was chosen as a worthwhile charity as the car had come from a "youthful group".

It was not for him to judge the merits or pitfalls of boy racing – he was just the man with the tool to do the crushing.

According to the listing: "Once upon a time a spunky little Nissan Laurel was out and about having some fun in its favourite mischievous pastime.

"Many times he was told off for misbehaving and being naughty, but it was just too tempting and on one fateful day he was caught for a fourth time.

"Sadly for the little Nissan Laurel there was a ruling in the Kingdom that such misbehaving was unacceptable, and so was ordered to execution by crushing."

The car had a scrap value of $150 to $200 and Mr Springford hoped it would sell for more than that. The auction closes on July 9.
