A man had to be cut from his car after hitting a tree in the Manawatu.

Inspector Peter Stokes, of police communications, said emergency services were called to the scene on Napier Rd, between Palmerston North and Ashhurst, about 10pm.

The driver was cut from his car and taken to Palmerston North Hospital with what were thought to be moderate to serious injuries, he said. No other cars were involved.

The cause of the crash was not known but the Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating.

I'm all for the white poppies.

I like the idea, but the timing's wrong.

It's contemptible and insulting.

I don't care.
