Fire fighters are battling a blaze caused by a suspected arson in Whanganui tonight.

Fire communications shift commander Mike Wanoa said the service received multiple calls about the fire, in an abandoned house on Seafront Rd, about 7.20pm.

The house was fully ablaze when fire fighters arrived.

Police had been called due to arson being suspected.

The fire was not threatening other properties.
