Planned festivities from tomorrow on Wellington's waterfront have been cancelled due to a poor forecast.
Wellington City Council has announced that the rugby fanzone, due to run from 12pm to 6pm tomorrow ahead of the All Blacks Argentina test at Westpac Stadium, has been cancelled due to forecast gale winds.
Community events manager Rebecca Hardie said the fanzone could not operate safely if the forecast was accurate.
"Our main objective is to welcome Argentina and All Blacks fans to the Capital for their first match against the All Blacks in the Rugby Championship.
"Fans will still enjoy the game live at Westpac Stadium and I know the Argentinean community, local fans and visitors are super-excited about the match."
Tomorrow's forecast is for periods of rain and northerly gales that could reach 140kmh in exposed places.
Wellington primary school children had designed flags that were due to flown at the fanzone.
Ms Hardie said volunteers would now fly them down Lambton Quay, Featherston and Willis Streets from 5.30pm with the drumming support of Batucada.
"They created some amazing designs so we are pleased we can still show off their works to add a buzz of colour and noise to the city."
