The champagne corks will be popping in Tauranga after a Big Wednesday ticket scooped the $27 million jackpot last night.
The winning ticket was sold at AJ's Lotto & Tobacconist in Tauranga.
''If this prize is won by one individual it will be the third biggest prize in NZ Lotteries’ history, putting our lucky winner into the record books'' said NZ Lotteries chief executive Wayne Pickup.
"The previous biggest prizes were the massive $36.8 million Big Wednesday prize won by a family syndicate from Masterton in 2009, and $28.7 million Lotto Powerball prize that went to a Papakura pig hunter in October 2010.''
The prize package is worth $27,004,410, comprising $25,592,110 cash, a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Audi Q7, a Rayglass 2200 boat, a $50,000 Visa Platinum Card and $50,000 worth of travel, and $675,000 cash towards a bach.
The winning numbers in tonight’s draw were 5, 6, 10, 20, 48 and 49, while the coin toss was heads. There were no division 2 winners.
It is the first time Big Wednesday’s first division prize has been won since March when an Auckland family won $11.4m.
Pickup says Big Wednesday sales have increased along with the growing jackpot, which will help to benefit the community.
NZ Lotteries profits are transferred to the Lottery Grants Board, which distributed more than $180m to thousands of community groups last year.
