Missing boat found
Three people who ventured out in a small, underpowered boat off Wellington's South Coast have been rescued after fears the vessel would hit trouble in gale force winds.
Inspector Bruce Mackay of Wellington said wharf police noticed an empty trailer at Owhiro Bay jetty earlier this afternoon and became concerned because it suggested a low-powered boat that could easily capsize in the rough conditions.
A search was then mounted involving Maritime police, the coast guard and the Westpac rescue helicopter after the 4-metre runabout boat was seen heading west from Owhiro Bay.
The trio are being escorted back to shore and will be spoken to by police.
