'Managers' to replace court staff
HAWKE'S BAY REPORTER
Napier and Hastings courts will lose seven senior posts under a Justice Ministry proposal.
The ministry this month announced an overhaul of the court system that could cut 68 fulltime jobs nationwide.
Under the proposal for consultation put to staff this month, Napier Court would lose its court manager, team manager and two case-flow managers. Two "front-line service delivery managers" would take their place.
Hastings Court would lose its satellite court manager, two team leaders, and its court reporter, replaced a "front-line service delivery manager".
Jonathan Krebs, Law Society Hawke's Bay president and New Zealand Law Society criminal law spokesman, said the ministry had rated the two courts as very efficient.
The "two dimensional proposal" had failed to consider the "human component" that had made the courts so successful, he said.
