The death of a 59-year-old man who collapsed near the central city overnight is not being treated as suspicious.

The man collapsed and died just before 1am on Majoribanks St and a police cordon was set up, Inspector Ian Harris said.

"Initially we were looking at it as unexplained or suspicious because there was a little blood around."

Mr Harris said the death was found to not have been suspicious and cordons were removed at 2.30am.

An ambulance spokesman said a member of the public had found the man and CPR was attempted but he had died at the scene.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
