Two brothers were injured in a high-speed crash involving five cars in Lower Hutt this afternoon.
One of the men was trapped and had to be cut free from a car following the smash on Wainui Rd about 1.20pm.
He suffered serious head injuries and was transported to Hutt Hospital, Inspector Ian Harris said.
His brother was also taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
Sergeant Rodger Hough said speed was a factor in the crash with the car the two injured men were in estimated to be travelling about 100km per hour in a 50km per hour area.
The speeding car smashed into four parked cars and a concrete planter box before coming to a stop, Mr Hough said.
The driver would likely be charged with reckless driving causing injury.
Wainui Rd between Whites Line East Rd and Gracefield Rd is closed to traffic while investigations continue.
