Firefighters extinguished a blaze at Cuba St restaurant El Matador on Monday night.
A fire communications spokesman said five engines responded to the fire, which was located in an extraction flue at the restaurant.
Cuba St was temporarily closed by police this afternoon and motorists were advised to avoid the area while traffic cleared.
"We've filled Cuba St up with fire trucks so nothing else will be going anywhere."
A Fire Service spokeswoman this morning said there was no significant damage to the restaurant.
