LATEST: Police are understood to be talking to two men after a suspected firearms incident in the Wellington suburb of Johnsonville.

Inspector Terry Van Dillen said a woman came into Johnsonville police station this afternoon and said she saw what she believed to be a firearm being pointed out the window of a house.

The Armed Offenders Squad and a canine unit were then sent to an Ironside Rd address and neighbours told by police to stay inside.

"It's always a big deal with firearms, we always treat things most serious until we can prove otherwise," Van Dillen said.

What do you think of the white peace poppy campaign?

I'm all for the white poppies.

I like the idea, but the timing's wrong.

It's contemptible and insulting.

I don't care.
