Four people were critically injured in a car crash in northern Hawke's Bay early Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to attend the scene where a car had flipped on State Highway 2, near Wairoa, at about 6.30am.
The four men - aged between late teens and 20 years old - were transported to Hawke’s Bay Regional Hospital.
A central police communications spokeswoman said three people became trapped when the car flipped between Ohuia and Iwitea Road.
A Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter spokeswoman said one flight carried a man with multiple injuries, then a second flight took a man with multiple injuries and another with a shoulder injury.
The Gisborne Rescue Helicopter also transported a man with head injuries from the same accident. All the injured men are believed to be in a critical condition.
