SLOW GOING: Traffic moves slowly along State Highway 1 after a road resurfacing equipment breakdown caused delays.

Road works that delayed morning commuters today won’t be causing the same headaches tomorrow, a New Zealand Transport Agency spokesman says.

By 6am today southbound traffic was already backed up on state highway one north of Johnsonville, with larger delays as the morning peak continued.

An NZTA spokesman thanked people for their patience today and apologised for the delay.

It  was caused by an equipment breakdown. While the crew did finish late they had cleared the road by 7.30am but it was  enough to cause knock-on delays.

Some more minor work was needed tonight but that should easily be cleared before peak hour traffic.
