The coastguard has had a busy afternoon with two boats capsizing within half an hour of each other in the Wellington region.
Inspector Mike Coleman, of police central communications, said the first water rescue happened about 1pm when a 3-metre inflatable dinghy capsized about 200 meters off the coast of Pukerua Bay.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter airlifted the two men on board to safety and dropped them off on dry land, he said.
The second rescue happened about 30 minutes later when a 5-metre yacht capsized near Matiu/Somes Island in Wellington Harbour.
A police boat swung by to pick up the 19-year-old man and his girlfriend who were on board, Mr Coleman said.
No one was harmed in either incident.
