Toxicology tests carried out to help determine the cause of Sofia Athanassiou’s death are inconclusive, police say.

Ms Athanassiou, 39, an unemployed Housing NZ tenant, was found dead near a running track on Mt Victoria, above Wellington East Girls’ College, in July.

She had suffered minor injuries but they had not contributed to her death, the cause of which remains ‘‘undetermined,’’ police said.

"The toxicology results have not provided us with any further insight and are inconclusive,’’ Detective Senior Sergeant Donna Howard said in a statement this afternoon.

"These results, along with the initial post-mortem, haven't provided any conclusive evidence and the pathologist has concluded that the cause of death is 'undetermined'.

Ms Athanassiou’s death had been referred to the coroner, Ms Howard said.
