A thunderstorm warning has been lifted for Wellington and much of the rest of the country.

Earlier this afternoon, Metservice warned possible Thunderstorms for the lower North Island and Upper South Island but the warning has lifted this evening.

Rain is still expected for Wellington tomorrow.

The rain will bring with it a temperature drop in Wellington, which is likely to persist through till Friday, accompanied by frequent showers.

Rain is expected to spread through most of the North Island south of Auckland and the upper South Island down to North Canterbury tomorrow.

Christmas Day had been subtropical with hot, humid, drizzly weather experienced in the lower North Island.

The long-range forecast for New Year’s eve and New Year’s day around the lower North Island was for gusty nor’westers and rain as twin highs squeezed the country.

What do you think of the white peace poppy campaign?

I'm all for the white poppies.

I like the idea, but the timing's wrong.

It's contemptible and insulting.

I don't care.
