Free WiFi in downtown Porirua is just weeks away for a large part of the central city.
Porirua City Council spokeswoman Moana Wyatt said the system was installed and, after testing in early January, would be turned on.
''It will be running early in the New Year.''
The free WiFi in the city centre - from the canopies through Ferry Pl to Lyttelton Ave and from Cobham Court to Te Rauparaha Park and Pataka - comes after the success of free WiFi in Jackson St Petone.
It is being done as part of the City Centre Revitalisation project.
The cost of the project was not immediately available.
