With just three days left until the Wellington Sevens kicks off, fans are putting the finishing touches to their costumes.

Leon Guerin and his mates will be hoping to give the ladies some eye candy when they head along dressed as Life Saver lollies.

The group of about 20 blokes will invade Westpac Stadium on Friday dressed as the fruit-flavoured candy with the hole in the middle.

For the purposes of the sevens, the group will be renamed Love Savers, Mr Guerin said from Nelson yesterday.

"We'll be handing out hugs and pashes. Some of us have got girlfriends, so those guys will be handing out actual lollies."

The group has bought 400 packets of Life Savers from Nelson Pak'n Save for the occasion.

Mr Guerin, a designer, came up with the theme soon after last year's tournament. He drew up plans and had them lovingly tailored into outfits by ProBrands in Nelson. "Last year we went as Pash 'n' Dash, and everyone loved it. It just seems to get bigger and bigger each year."

The hardest thing about going to the sevens in a full body suit was, not surprisingly, going to the loo, he said.

"It's pretty hard to get a hand out, then you have to try and wriggle out of it. Everyone is cracking up behind you. They're going to be even tighter this year."

The group will be taking a waterproof camera along to record their antics, and plan to jump into Wellington Harbour with it.
