Police find car driven by missing man
Police have found the car missing man Leighton Grant was last seen driving away in, and are searching surrounding bush near Hatepe.
Taupo Senior Constable Barry Shepherd said the white Suzuki Vitara, which belonged to Grant's mother, was found by a tourist at Hallets Bay just south of Hatepe and about half way between Taupo and Turangi.
Shepherd said police found the car yesterday, but an initial search did not bring up anything. The hunt for any sign of the Auckland resident was expected to resume at first light this morning.
Grant, 35, left Taupo on Friday and was due back the following day. He had been in Taupo for about a week.
"There's nothing sinister or suspicious about it. He's gone away in his mother's car, with her permission, and never returned."
