Police investigating the unexplained death of a 48-year-old man near Rongotea, Manawatu, are not treating it as suspicious.

Richard Mclean, formally of Marton, was staying at a Bainesse Rd property when he was found dead in the house by the owner at around 8.30am on Saturday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Marc Hercock said the cause of death remained unexplained but there were no suspicious circumstances  surrounding Mr Mclean's death and police were not looking for anyone in relation to his death.

Police are finalising their investigation for referral to the coroner.
