Police have launched a homicide investigation in Levin after a 27-year-old man died from a stab wounds.
Detective Senior Sergeant Marc Hercock said police and ambulance were called to a rural address off State Highway 1, north of Levin, at 8:30pm last night, after receiving a call that a man had been stabbed.
"Ambulance staff made attempts to resuscitate the man, however he was declared dead at the scene."
Police have secured the scene and an examination is commencing.
"Our focus is on the scene examination, and conducting an area canvas to determine the sequence of events that lead to the fatal stabbing.
"We are in the process of interviewing witnesses and are making further inquiries to identify people that can assist us with this investigation," Mr Hercock said.
A post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow.
