Police are asking for help from the public to find a man who has been suspiciously approaching primary school children in Levin.

An 11-year-old girl was walking along Balmoral St towards school between 8.30am and 9am yesterday when a man pulled up in a cream-coloured car. He got out, grabbed her arm and asked for directions to a nearby park.

The male held her tightly by the arm for a period of time before getting back into his vehicle and headed north on Balmoral St, turning left into Liverpool St.

The man is not known to the young girl, who was upset by the incident.

Police are asking for any information that would help identify the man, who is described as dark-skinned with a moustache, wearing a black beanie, black jacket and black pants. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

Anyone with information can contact Levin police on 036330500 or crime stoppers 0800 555 111 or use the crimestoppers website.
