Romance was in the air at Wellington City Council today when a barbershop quartet serenaded councillors for Valentine's Day.
As the councillors went to morning tea they were greeted by the Harbour Capital Chorus' Just Four Now quartet, who sung Heart Of My Heart and Let Me Call You Sweetheart.
They then presented a rose to Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, patron of the Harbour Capital Chorus.
Mayor Wade-Brown said the quartet approached her about gifting her a singing valentine.
"I thought it would be a great thing for them to do for the whole council. It was beautiful, very romantic."
Councillor Simon Marsh said it was fantastic and sealed a great day for him.
"I re-proposed to my fiancée of 31 years this morning and she said yes. I bought a new ring and everything. I think she just needed time to get used to me."
Councillor Iona Pannett said it was a lovely surprise.
"It's a great thing to have done. They have lovely voices and it was beautiful," she said.
Councillor Helene Ritchie said it would probably be the nicest thing to happen to her all day.
"Although there is plenty of the day to go."
The quartet said they had four quartets performing for Valentines Day around Wellington today and tonight.
