Talent2 woes extend to own staff getting double pay
Staff at the company responsible for the botched teachers' pay system have had a taste of what Education Minister Hekia Parata might call karma.
Australian firm Talent2 has been delivering wrong payments to teachers through its Novopay system since it was introduced in August.
Now its own staff in New Zealand have received twice their normal pay.
A Talent2 spokeswoman confirmed to The Dominion Post yesterday that staff had received double pay into their bank accounts overnight.
But an internal memo was quick to redirect blame.
"We have been in contact with the bank this morning and there is a problem at their end with their online processing," the memo said.
It assured staff their workload would not increase further.
"We have been advised they [the bank] will fix the duplication and that no action is required by you at this stage."
The spokeswoman acknowledged the error was "one of life's ironies".
New Zealand Principals' Federation president Philip Harding saw the irony too, saying: "No-one enjoys being paid incorrectly, even Australians."
When Ministry of Education staff dealing with Novopay problems suffered a payroll glitch of their own last month, Ms Parata used a different word, describing it as "karma".
Steven Joyce, the minister in charge of sorting out Novopay, would not comment on the latest turn of events.
Results of an independent technical review into Novopay's software system are due in a couple of weeks.
