Wellington runners Martin van Barneveld and Tina Harris were first to cross the line in the AMI Round the Bays fun run event.

Van Barneveld finished the seven kilometre event in 20m 6s, one second ahead of Tim Hodge of Tawa and just three seconds ahead of Ben Barry of Thorndon.

Harris won the women’s race in 24m 16s ahead of Sarah Christie and Gemma Cartwright.The annual run, which drew 13,000 entries, was brilliant, said event director Craig Ireson.

‘‘There was a huge field, a record field for a Wellington fun run, and the weather played its part. It wasn’t too hot, there was a nice breeze and there were heaps of people out there cheering them on. It is Wellington’s favourite run.

People of all ages and abilities entered in the charity fundraiser.

The ISC Lenco half marathon, which started just before the fun run, was won by Hamish Carson of Wellington in 1hr 8.52s ahead of Dougal Thorburn of Lyall Bay and Stephen Lett of Takapuna.

Alexandra Williams of Christchurch won the women’s half marathon race in 1hr 18.17s ahead of Gabriel O’Rourke of Wellington and Annika Rihma  of Pinehaven.
