Police have removed a cordon they put in place around a suspicious package found in central Wellington.
Inspector Ian Harris, of police central communications, said the package was found outside a Jay Jays clothing store on Lambton Quay about 8.30pm on Friday.
A small cordon was established around part of Lambton Quay and Johnston St while an Army bomb squad examined the package.
The cordon was lifted about 11pm when police were satisfied it was not explosive, Mr Harris said.
Detectives from Wellington CIB also examined the scene.
