A 60-year-old man described by a judge as "physically decrepit" pretended to be former Shortland Street and Coronation Street actor Adam Rickitt as he held increasingly sexual conversations with a 13-year-old American girl.
Graham Macdonald Young, of Tawa, claimed to be a 24-year-old called John Emsey, and sent the girl pictures of Rickitt, saying it was him.
He requested pictures from the girl, who lived in New York, and sent her Elle Macpherson lingerie.
In Wellington District Court judge yesterday, Judge Denys Barry said Young did not stop, despite being told the girl's age.
Young had began emailing the girl in May 2011, telling her he was a 24-year-old called John Emsey. He sent her a picture of Rickitt which he purported to be a picture of himself and they continued to communicate.
The girl's mother discovered their communication, and emailed Young, telling him her daughter was only 13 and asking why he was having sexually-charged conversations with her.
The mother told police she believed Young was in Australia. However, after inquiries and forensic digital analysis, he was found to be from Tawa.
A search of his house found pictures of the girl, along with others that were objectionable.
Young pleaded guilty to making and possessing objectionable material, and was jailed for two years and two months. He was also sentenced on charges of possession of cannabis and a pipe.
Judge Barry said Young was physically decrepit, having survived a stroke, with diabetes and other health difficulties.
He had worked as a website designer and IT consultant.
His lawyer, Sonia Thistoll, said Young had been at a particular low point in his life and had now had time to reflect on his conduct.
Young was jailed for two years and two months.
