Fuel leak suspected after truck trailer rolls at Plimmerton

The rolled digger is thought to be leaking fuel.

A trailer carrying a digger has flipped over on State Highway 1, possibly leaking petrol on to the Plimmerton roundabout near Porirua. 

Police said it appeared a digger had fallen off the back of a truck on State Highway 1 and the truck's trailer had tipped just before 2pm on Tuesday.

The roundabout was down to one lane and there were reports that petrol was leaking.

Senior Sergeant Mark Scott, of Wellington, said the left-hand lane of the roundabout was expected to be closed for at least two hours while cranes were brought in to clear the vehicles.

Emergency services at the scene said nobody was hurt. 

The roundabout is down to one lane and there are no reported injuries.

The roundabout is down to one lane and there are no reported injuries.

Both lanes were opened shortly before 4pm, though northbound delays continued for a while.

By about 4.15pm, NZTA reported that both lanes were flowing freely again.
