A learner driver who took a car after he had been drinking has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of a mother of four.
Stacey Reweti, 28, was killed when the car she was a passenger in was smashed in to north of Paekakariki on February 13 last year.
In the High Court in Wellington today Jordan Hyde, 23, pleaded guilty to Reweti's manslaughter by driving dangerously, causing injury to Paul Tarr while driving with an excess blood-alcohol level, and unlawfully taking a stationwagon in circumstances not amounting to theft.
Hyde was remanded in custody to be sentenced in October.
The case has been delayed while reports were prepared about Hyde's schizophrenia and because of the long time he spent in hospital after developing pancreatitis.
Hyde was also injured in the crash that claimed Reweti's life.
