Malfunctioning traffic lights at the Terrace off ramp near the James Cook Hotel have now been fixed.
The lights have been out of action since about 7am this morning but a NZ Transport Agency spokesperson confirmed they were back up and running at 4:30 this afternoon.
During the day-long repair operation the NZTA advised motorists to take alternative routes in to the city while the lights were out of operation.
While the lights were out drivers were forced to fend for themselves through the busy intersection.
