Motorists facing long delays between Mana and Paekakariki
Congestion that lead to commuters facing delays of up to 70 minutes as they drove up the Kapiti Coast this evening is starting to ease.
The New Zealand Transport Agency said likely delays on State Highway 1 between Mana and Paekakariki were estimated at 40 minutes initially, before rising to 70 minutes at one point in the evening, and easing back to 55 minutes about 6.30pm.
By 7pm vehicles had started to move more freely.
The NZTA was asking motorists to take extra care in the heavy traffic.
A tweet from NZTA to a driver asking what was bringing cars to a standstill said there were no incidents in the area, but a heavy Friday peak was causing the congestion.
Motorists on State Highway 2 are also facing delays after a crash in a southbound lane at Horokiwi causing heavy traffic in the area.
