Orcon customers around Wellington and the Hutt are in to day two of an internet outage which has left many frustrated and unable to do business.
The telecommunications company has struck an unscheduled outage and its website said customers in Wellington may be having issues connecting to the internet due to a loss of authentication.
An Orcon engineer told Geekzone users that despite replacing hardware usually associated with the fault the issue had not been resolved and some customers would be without both phone and internet until a fix could be found.
Orcon have not responded to calls from media, so it is not yet known how many customers are affected by the outage or when it might be fixed.
Wellington firm The International Office went down about midday on Saturday, and were still not back on by 5pm the next day despite a ''wild Twitter rumour'' that it would be back on Sunday.
Designer Duncan Forbes said there were a couple of things that an ISP should be able to do well - keep the internet going and problem solve, but Orcon appeared to be doing neither.
Mr Forbes said he had tweeted the company but not had any response, and that the call centre was a ''nightmare''.
Firefly Cinemas, which is due to launch its new pop-up cinema venture in a month's time, have had no internet at the office since Friday night and were initially told it was an isolated fault.
Spokesman Brady Dyer said he was told a technician would have to come to see what the issue was and that may not happen until Thursday or Friday.
''It's affecting being able to run our business, we are working from home for a couple of days.''
Twitter user Stephanie Morrison was still waiting for the issue to be resolved at 5pm today.
''Can't study for my exam at home because @orcon internet has been down for over a day. Frustrating.''
Twitter user Matt Ward was one of a number thinking about leaving Orcon after the outage.
''Hey @orcon please sort your shit out. Over 24 hours without internet now. Thinking of switching to new ISP.''
