Traffic backed up along SH2 near Wellington after the crash.

Traffic is now flowing freely on State Highway 2 heading into Wellington, after a crash during rush hour caused major delays on Monday morning.

Three cars were involved in the rush-hour crash just before 7am that blocked both lanes for a time.

Police warned of a slow commute into the capital.

The crash, involving three vehicles, happened just before 7am on Monday in a southbound lane near Horokiwi, police said.

No one was injured in the crash, police said.

The crash was cleared just before 8am, but traffic delays were not resolved until 9.30am, a spokeswoman for the NZTA said.

Shortly after 8am NZTA said that the commute from Melling to the CBD, which is about 15km and usually takes about 12-15 minutes, was taking 55 minutes.
